If you find yourself in search of a green juice while hanging in Poughkeepsie, pop over to All Shook Up. The vintage style eatery (complete with Jukebox and soda fountain) offers shakes, burgers, fries and wraps, all with a healthy twist.
Located on 44 Raymond Avenue, stepping into the cafe is like stepping into the fifties. With the checkerboard floor, swivel chairs, and the iconic ads on the wall, it seems as if at any moment Elvis himself could walk through the doors. The menu is extensive, utilizing produce from local farms. Meats are antibiotic and hormone free. Cheese comes from grass fed cows. If you’re not into the animal products, that’s fine because there are lots of options for vegetarians and vegans. Yes, they use organic fare.
Like the Elvis Presley Shake, that can be made with tofu in place of yogurt. The All Shook Up Salad is huge (pictured above) and comes with chickpeas, jicama, and juicy apples. Breads are sprouted and low-glycemic, making it easy to dine if you’re diabetic. They even offer gluten-free tortillas, so you don’t have to order your sandwich wrapped in lettuce. And of course, you’ll get some sweet potatoes fries on the side.
With every item under ten dollars, it’s affordable health. It’s a walkable distance to Vassar College and the Arlington Farmer’s Market, so fuel up and go exploring.
