It’s really beginning to feel like winter on the east coast. The weather is rawer, the days shorter, and naturally, our skin dryer. Body exfoliating with a scrub is a great way to rid yourself of dead skin cells and lock in moisture.
While there are several companies that make scrubs we love (like this one and this one), you can make your own with coconut oil and sugar. We opted for unrefined coconut oil because it naturally maintains the sweet scent of coconuts (to us it smells like sugar cookies). Coconut oil is high in lauric acid which is antibacterial and fungal. It’s also high in Vitamin E and strengthens skin tissue.
*Note: Make sure oil is soft before assembling scrub.
1/3 cup of unrefined coconut oil + 1 cup of sugar + *Optional, 1 tsp of vanilla extract or essential oil
In a airtight container, add oil and then remaining ingredients. Fold together but don’t over mix. Store in a cool place for next use.
