Detoxes ruffle a lot of people’s feathers and we get it, the body has its own mechanisms for ridding itself of toxins. But the food, air, heck, the planet isn’t what it was a thousand years ago. A detox can be exactly what you need to reset yourself if you’ve made one too many happy hours or just have been eating like crap.
THE DRINK: UP CLOSE & PERSONAL
This DIY Detox Drink works best in the morning and can be substituted for your typical breakfast. Kale is a nutrient powerhouse, providing more calcium than a glass of cow’s milk, manganese that metabolizes fats and carbohydrates, and so many other vitamins and minerals that if you haven’t caught on to the trend of eating it, you’re really missing out. Parsley is often overlooked but it’s a chemoprotective food and eradicates carcinogens. It also has immune-system boosting properties, thanks to the vitamin C. Ginger aids in digestion, lemon is loaded with vitamin c and detoxes the liver. Flax seed is a gelatinous protein and pulls out toxins during the digestion process. Vitamin B6 can be found in bananas which support a healthy nervous system and keeps skin healthy.
We strongly suggest buying organic ingredients for this recipe. After all, this is to help you detox from the impurities in your food and environment. We also recommend throwing ingredients into a blender instead of a juicer. Cleanup will be easier and you’ll get the full amount of fiber from the kale. If this drink is a little “too green” for you, feel free to throw in some pineapple chunks.
